Election commission records 400 campaign violations

Alshaheen News

The Independent Election Commission (IEC) said it had dealt with 400 electoral violations up until Tuesday morning, which ranged from campaigning malpractices and the use of “black money.”

Commission spokesman Jihad Momani said in a statement that the IEC had summoned a candidate who provoked controversy by offering free electricity to voters.

But he argued he meant electricity from renewable energy, which he said is of “prime importance to the Jordanian citizen,” and eventually signed a pledge to erase the phrase that suggests using “corrupt money” for a free utility to the public.

Momani also said that the IEC on Friday verified a video showing individuals in a vehicle with a bundle of IDs and concluded that it was shot in a southern governorate and the vehicle’s owner was referred to security bodies for investigation.
