Israel kills Al-Quds Brigades commander

Israeli warplanes at dawn on Tuesday assassinated a commander at the Al-Quds Brigades and his wife in a dangerous escalation of the situation in the besieged Gaza Strip.

Palestinian sources said Israeli warplanes bombed the house of Bahaa Abu al-Atta, a senior commander of the Al-Quds Brigades, the armed wing of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, in the Al-Shejaiya district, east of Gaza City, resulting in the martyrdom of Abu al-Atta and his wife.

In a statement, Al-Quds Brigades mourned Abu Al-Atta (42) and his wife, declaring the state of maximum alert, and said he was one its military council’s top members and commander of the northern region.

“The response to this crime will have no limits and will equal the magnitude of the crime committed by the enemy,” the statement said.

Two other Palestinians were injured in the attack on the Abu al-Atta’s house, the Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip said.

The Israeli occupation authorities closed all crossings in the Gaza Strip, and canceled school in all settlements around the Gaza Strip, after the Israeli occupation army announced the assassination of the Al-Quds Brigades commander.

For its part, the Ministry of Education in the Gaza Strip said due to the current situation, it decided to suspend classes in all schools on Tuesday.
