An American federal court on Friday sentenced a former agent of the United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) to 19 years in prison, for espionage for China.<\/p>\n
Lee had pleaded guilty to conspiring to provide China with national defense information before a judge at the Eastern District court of Virginia.<\/p>\n
“Lee betrayed his own country and put his former colleagues at risk,” said Timothy Slater, assistant director in the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Washington field office.<\/p>\n
“The seriousness of his betrayal and crime is demonstrated by today’s sentencing,” he added.<\/p>\n
In January 2018, Jerry Chun Shing Lee was arrested on suspicion of providing China with information about a web of US agents that Beijing dismantled between 2010 and 2012.<\/p>\n
