No more. Get your act together Governor,&#8221; Mr Trump wrote on Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Newsom, who has been highly critical of Mr Trump&#8217;s environmental policies, responded: &#8220;You don&#8217;t believe in climate change. You are excused from this conversation.&#8221;<\/p>\n<ul class=\"story-body__unordered-list\">\n<li class=\"story-body__list-item\"><a class=\"story-body__link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/science-environment-47444463\">California wildfires &#8216;can now happen in any year&#8217;<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Increased temperatures due to global warming\u00a0<a class=\"story-body__link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/science-environment-47444463\">are causing huge wildfires in California<\/a>, according to a recent study published in the\u00a0<a class=\"story-body__link-external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pnas.org\/content\/early\/2019\/02\/15\/1815292116\">Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Drier, warmer conditions lead to vegetation drying out and becoming more flammable.<\/p>\n<p>President Trump made a similar threat to cut federal aid in 2018, when the most deadly fire in California&#8217;s history killed 86 people.<\/p>\n<p>In California, 57% of forested areas are managed by federal agencies such as the US Forest Service, the Bureau of Land Management and the National Park Service.<\/p>\n<p>In 2018, the state requested $72 million (\u00a355.6 million) in reimbursements from the US Forest Service, with $9 million (\u00a37 million) of that money withheld,\u00a0<a class=\"story-body__link-external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/local\/lanow\/la-me-ln-trump-blocks-california-wildfire-reimbursements20190522-story.html\">the Los Angeles Times reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"story-body__crosshead\">What&#8217;s happening with the fires?<\/h2>\n<p>Firefighters have contained about half of the Maria Fire, the major blaze in southern California.<\/p>\n<p>The fire, which broke out on Thursday, has burned more than 9,400 acres, the Ventura County Fire Department said on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The largest blaze, the Kincade Fire in Sonoma County, was 76% contained on Sunday after burning nearly 80,000 acres since it started on 23 October, officials said.<\/p>\n<p>All evacuation orders were lifted on Saturday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>shaheennews US President Donald Trump has threatened to cut federal funding for the wildfires sweeping California, in a Twitter spat with the state&#8217;s governor.
