{"id":3427,"date":"2019-01-27T11:31:12","date_gmt":"2019-01-27T11:31:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/shahennews.com\/eng\/?p=3427"},"modified":"2019-01-27T11:31:14","modified_gmt":"2019-01-27T11:31:14","slug":"economic-confidence-bounces-in-q4-in-the-uae-supported-by-infrastructure-spending-this-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shahennews.com\/eng\/archives\/3427\/economic-confidence-bounces-in-q4-in-the-uae-supported-by-infrastructure-spending-this-year\/","title":{"rendered":"Economic Confidence Bounces in Q4 in the UAE Supported By Infrastructure Spending This Year"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>shaheennews<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Increased infrastructure spending could bode well for the UAE\neconomy, finds the latest Q4 edition of Global Economic Conditions (GECS) from\nACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) and IMA (Institute of\nManagement Accountants).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The UAE GECS survey found overall economic confidence higher in Q4,\nrecovering some of the ground lost in Q3. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lindsay Degouve de Nuncques, head of ACCA Middle East, believes there\nis further optimism with the economy likely to perform relatively strongly over\nthe next year or so, saying: \u201cVolatility in oil prices may be a drag on the\neconomy but strong fundamentals mean fiscal policy will not need to be\ntightened dramatically. In addition, the US dollar has lost upward momentum as\ninterest rate expectations have fallen, limiting the degree of additional monetary\ntightening by the GCC economies.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn addition, increased spending on infrastructure projects,\nincluding for the World Expo in 2020, will underpin growth. Indeed, it is\nnotable there was a sharp improvement in the government-spending sub-component,\nwhile the new orders sub-component was stable.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She continued \u201celsewhere in Saudi Arabia, a major factor affecting\nthe economy is the recent Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries\n(OPEC) production cuts. The recent fall in oil prices is likely to lead to a\ndecline in government revenues, and government spending may come under pressure\nas a result.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>HanadiKhalife, Director, MEA and\nIndia operations at IMA commented: \u201cThe results of the survey show increasing\nbusiness confidence in the Middle East which has been stimulated by UAE\u2019s\nspending on its infrastructure. This falls in line with the objectives set by\nthe government to achieve the UAE Vision 2021.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe real GDP growth is expected\nto accelerate in the UAE over the next few years, affected by the non-stop\nconstruction activities ahead of Expo 2020. Estimates show that infrastructure\ninvestments are playing a key role in driving the growth of the local economy\nthat is increasinglyrelying on non-oil activities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The report shows that government spending is at a multi-year high\nand this is particularly focused on diversifying regional economies and driving\nsustainable economic development.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Globally, economic confidence fell for the third consecutive\nquarter in Q4 2018, ending the year at an all-time low.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking of the\nglobal results, Narayanan Vaidyanathansaid: \u201cEconomic confidence over 2018 has\nbeen turbulent, with end of calendar year results downbeat compared to the\nstart of 2018. It\u2019s been interesting to look back at the GECS from the start of\n2018, when we recorded economic confidence at its\nhighest since the first survey was issued assessing Q1 2009. Last year was\nclearly a roller-coaster ride and the outlook for 2019 is also uncertain.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The global poll of 3,800 accountants shows that all key regions\nrecorded a negative confidence score with signs of growth weakening in the\nworld\u2019s three biggest economies &#8211; the US, China and the Eurozone. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The survey reveals respondents to be pessimistic about the outlook\nahead, with the lowest scores recorded in Western Europe and the Caribbean.
