Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh on Thursday visited the Omari border crossing between Jordan and Saudi Arabia and called for further simplification of passenger clearance at the vital entry point and elsewhere across the Kingdom’s borders.
The prime minister learned firsthand about measures taken to accommodate and facilitate passenger traffic at the border point and plans in place to welcome Jordanian expatriates arriving from Arab Gulf countries for the summer break.
Khasawneh met with the various stakeholders running the entry point and indicated that his government had supplied the border crossing with new equipment and facilities to ensure smooth passenger and cargo flow according to the highest degrees of comfort and adherence to infection controls.
Director of the Omari Border Crossing, Col. Bashar Musallam, delivered a briefing on the crossing’s operating model and said it can normally handle up to 18,000 passengers per day but in light of the coronavirus pandemic, about 1,300 passengers cross every day.
