Tuesday, the Ministry of Agriculture said that based on the movement of wind it is possible that the swarms of locusts will head towards Ma’an, Aqaba, Azraq and al-Ruwaished.
According to the statement, vehicle-mounted sprayers were used to fight these swarms, as well as mechanical sprayers in rugged areas and valleys.
The ministry worked with the Jordanian Armed Forces, Civil Defense Directorate(CDD), Greater Amman Municipality (GAM), administrative governors and other municipalities in all the areas where locusts were detected.
Additionally, the National Center for Security and Crisis Management was also heavily involved in combating this issue.
The ministry confirmed that this emergency plan will run until mid-June, until the risk of more locusts entering drops. The ministry also stressed its readiness to deal with these swarms with the available equipment, employees and partners.
Citizens are advised to get the latest information regarding the locust situation in the Kingdom through the ministry’s official Facebook page and website. The ministry called on citizens to contact them to report locust sightings.
