The Kingdom will be affected on Wednesday by a cold air mass, pushing mercury levels sharply down to become below seasonal average, and bringing cold and partly cloudy weather in the highlands, with a chance of spotty showers in the northern and central regions.
The Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) said that winds will be westerly active with strong gusts exceeding 70km/h, blowing dust in the Badia areas and causing poor visibility, adding that rainfall is expected to cover the south-western areas later at night.
The weather department warned of slippery roads in the areas experiencing rain, strong winds, and of low or even lack of horizontal visibility due to dust storms, strong winds, urging the public, especially asthma patients and those who suffer seasonal allergy, to take precautions as the dust-laden winds pass through the Kingdom.
On Thursday, temperatures will continue to drop, marking 4-5 degrees below annual average. Therefore, cold conditions will prevail in most regions, except in the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea and Aqaba where it will be fair, with low-altitude clouds and a possibility of light showers in the western parts of the country, while winds will be westerly moderate, picking up at times, the Department noted.
Mercury levels will rise few degrees on Friday, but similar weather conditions will continue to persist with showers in the northern and central areas and westerly moderate to brisk winds, the JMD further said.
The highs in Amman and other highlands across the Kingdom will range between 10 and 15 degrees Celsius today, dropping to 10 at night. In the Jordan Valley and Aqaba, it will be much warmer with mercury levels in the 22 degrees Celsius vicinity.
