A member of the National Committee for Epidemics Bassam Hijjawi told Roya’s Nabd Albalad Tuesday that the only way to confront the new outbreak of COVID-19 is to vaccinate the largest possible number of people.

He said that the Epidemics Committee will hold a meeting Wednesday to provide recommendations to the government in order to reduce the number of coronavirus infections and deaths.

He added that imposing a total lockdown for at least one week is a possibility for Jordan, stressing this is the ‘worst’ case scenario.

Jordan recorded 69 deaths and 8,910 new COVID-19 cases Tuesday, bringing the total number of cases since the beginning of the crisis to 495,380.

Monday, the Head of the National Center for Epidemics and Infectious Diseases, Firas Hawari, said that the COVID-19 curve is taking a very difficult path in the Kingdom.

He called for the cooperation of citizens to take preventive measures and receive COVID-19 vaccinations to relieve the great pressure on medical personnel, and to prevent the collapse of the health sector in Jordan.
