Trade deficit down by 17.8% in 2020

 Jordan’s trade deficit in the first 11 months of 2020 slumped by 17.8 per cent to JD5.888 billion against JD7.161 billion in the same period of 2019, according to official figures released Monday.

The Kingdom’s total exports edged down by 5.2 per cent in the January-November period standing at JD5.069 billion from JD5.349 billion in the corresponding period of last year, the monthly report by the Department of Statistics, which covers foreign trade, revealed.

National exports also inched down by 0.1 per cent to JD4.537 billion by the end of November, compared with JD4.543 billion during the same period of last year, according to the data.

The value of re-exports stood at JD532.3 million by the end of November, constituting a 33.9 per cent drop, compared to JD805 million in the same period of last year.

As for imports, their value amounted to JD10.958 billion, a decrease of 12.4 percent compared to the same period last year, which stood at JD12.510 billion.
