Minister of Health, Nazir Obeidat, said that there are positive indicators linked to recording less number of Coronavirus (Covid-19) infections, as the numbers did not exceed 6,000 cases per day.

“The epidemiological situation in Jordan is not negatively developing, and the occupancy rate for hospital beds is within an acceptable level,” Obeidat said in a joint press conference with Secretary-General of the Ministry of Health for Epidemiological Affairs, Officer in charge of the Coronavirus situation in Jordan, Wael Hayajneh, held on Moday at the Prime Ministry.

Obaidat indicated that the government is working on increasing the capacity of hospitals, the number of beds, ICU beds and ventilators, noting that the private hospital that the government rented in this framework began receiving cases infected with Covid-19 today, in addition to establishing 3 field hospitals in the North, Central, and South areas and they are expected to be completed within 3-4 weeks and receiving people infected with the novel virus.

The Minister of Health called on citizens to adhere to precautionary measures and avoid gatherings and attending events, wearing face masks, following the utmost precaution and caution, and using various preventive methods and sterilizers to reduce the number of infections.

He stressed that Defense Order No. (23) is a precautionary measure to preserve the health of citizens, and that its issuance does not mean in any way to change the agreements signed with private sector hospitals.

He pointed out that the health ministry is working with the Civil Service Bureau to provide it with 2,000 additional health cadres to confront the virus, and develop its capabilities after this pandemic.

In response to a question on private business owners requesting the infected employee to re-take the Covid-19 test more than once; to ensure that they’ve recovered from the virus, Obeidat confirmed that the approved global protocol is clear that isolation is for a period of 10 days without symptoms and 13 days with minor symptoms, provided that the symptoms disappear in the last 3 days.

For his part, Hayajneh said that 85,609 recoveries had been registered as of early November, in addition to about 62,000 active cases.

The officer of the Coronavirus situation added that the occupancy rate of ventilators ranges between 31 – 33 percent, while the occupancy rate of isolation beds ranges between 43 – 45 percent, and the occupancy rate of intensive care beds ranges between 53 – 54 percent.

“We are committed to treat citizens infected with Covid-19 in the private sector for free in the event that their admission procedures pass through the Ministry of Health.”
