Jordan’s trade deficit with EU at JD1.4bln in 8 months

 Jordan’s trade balance deficit with member states of the European Union narrowed down by 20.2 percent in the first 8 months of 2020, reaching JD1.4 billion compared with JD1.7 billion in the corresponding period of 2019.


The Kingdom’s exports to EU member states declined to JD98.7 million in the eight-month period against JD103.4 million in the same period last year, indicating a decrease of 4.5 percent, according to official data released Wednesday by the Department of Statistics (DoS).


Similarly, the value of the Kingdom’s imports from the EU retreated by 16.1 percent in the January-August of the current year to a total of JD1.579 billion from the JD1.884 billion recorded in the same period last year, the data revealed.


Noteworthy, the Kingdom’s gross trade deficit in the first 8 months of the current year dipped by 22.7 percent against the same period last year.
