Alshaheen News

As universities and schools adapt to teaching and learning at a distance, counselors and psychologists call for maintaining the wellbeing and mental health of students as they now spend more screentime than ever.

“Distance education has broken the psychological link between the student and the teacher, told” Dr. Abdullah Abu Adass, a consultant psychiatrist , pointing out in-person student-teacher interaction is something that cannot be achieved outside the classroom under any circumstances.

To address such concerns, Abu Adass called for coming up with “smart solutions” at this stage, and creating an academic environment that takes into account the psychological and social needs of students.

Dr. Nadir Ziyoud, who lectures on psychological and educational counseling at the Hashemite University, urged parents to help their children overcome challenges and isolation which this new mode of education delivery has imposed.

He underlined the role school counselors can play at this stage by communication with all stakeholders in the educational process and extending support and motivation to students and teachers alike.
