New health restrictions were announced by the Ministry of Education following the start of the new academic year on September 1.
The restrictions indicated that teachers or students who suffer from chronic diseases that might lead to immune deficiency, such as lung diseases, obesity, diabetes and cancer, should move towards distance learning.
Students should not be sent to schools if they suffer from high temperature, general exhaustion, sore throat or coughing, the ministry said.
In addition, the ministry called on students to adhere to wearing masks while they are on school transport and to keep a distance of one metre at least between each student.
The ministry’s restrictions included the way students are expected to wear masks, so it covers the nose and mouth. Students can remove their masks occasionally if they are adhering to keeping a distance of one metre between each other.
Students should get rid of the used mask and replace it with a new one daily, the ministry added.
As for the students who are under the age of five, they are not required to wear masks.
Students aged 12 and above will be expected to adhere to all precautionary measures.
However, they can remove their masks during their class time if they keep a distance of one metre from each other, the ministry added.
Schools with air conditioners must clean them every now and then, the ministry added.
