China announced the novel coronavirus death toll has climbed to 2,870 with 35 new deaths over the last 24 hours, while the confirmed cases increased to 79,824 after reports of 573 new infections, health officials said Sunday.

In a statement, the Chinese National Health Commission (NHC) said it has received reports from 31 provinces, confirming 79,824 cases, while 35,329 patients are still being treated, and 41,625 discharged after recovery.
