China coronavirus toll rises to 2,744

The overall death toll in mainland China due to the deadly coronavirus has increased to 2,744, while the number of confirmed cases reached 78,497, China’s health authorities said on Thursday.

In a statement, the China National Health Commission said it had received 78,497 reports of confirmed cases and 2,744 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland, while in all 32,495 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital.

“Hubei province, the epicenter of the outbreak, reported 409 new cases of confirmed infections and 26 deaths on February 26,” it added.
