Extremely cold front to persist

Temperatures today are expected to be 4-6 degrees below their seasonal average, bringing chilly weather conditions nationwide, cloudy skies and scattered showers in the central and southern regions, according to the Jordan Metrological Department (JMD).
“The kingdom remains under the influence of a very cold air mass coming from Siberia, with rainfall and ‘ineffective’ showers of snow on mountain heights of the northern and central regions, while snowfall will be of limited accumulation on the southern mountains,” head of the JMD’s weather forecasting section, Raed Khattab, told Petra.
Khattab expected that the northern Badia highlands, such as the Deir Al-Kahf, will have showers of snow, which will gradually weaken by the evening and night hours. Frost will be formed in most areas, and winds will be northwesterly moderate to brisk.
He reiterated warning of slippery roads, low visibility in mountainous areas and possible frost formation at night.
On Monday, chilly conditions will persist in most areas of the Kingdom with scattered rain and snow showers on mountains, while temperatures will slightly rise on Tuesday but with similar cold weather and clouds at low altitudes.
Temperatures expected for today will reach 6 degrees Celsius in Amman, 4 the northern cities and 3 in the southern regions, dropping to – 1, – 3 and – 4 respectively. Mercury levels in the Gulf of Aqaba will register a high of 18 degrees and a low of 8, the JMD said.
