Washington: Iraq withdrawal letter was sent by ‘mistake’

shaheennews

The Pentagon on Monday denied reports that U.S. troops in Iraq were being repositioned in preparation for a possible withdrawal, according to Washington Post.

“This was a mistake, it shouldn’t have been sent”, U.S. Army Chief Gen. Mark Milley told reporters, after a letter indicating a withdrawal was released to Iraqi officials by the U.S. military command in Baghdad.

“The letter was an unsigned planning draft discussing new deployments and should not have been released,” he said.

Defense Secretary Mark T. Esper also denied the news, saying: “there has been no decision made to leave Iraq, period”.
