Impacts of the cold air mass accompanied by a depression centered over Cyprus are expected to deepen today, as further drop in temperatures will prevail with strong winds and rainfall in the northern and central parts of the country, according to the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD).

Rain is predicted to be heavy at times, forming floods in the low-lying areas and accompanied by thunderstorms and hail, while winds will be southwesterly and brisk, with strong gusts reaching 80km/h, the JMD added.

Winter weather will continue over the weekend with very cold, cloudy and rainy conditions prevailing nationwide on Friday, with a slight chance for snowfall over areas of high elevation in the southern region.

On Saturday, the effects of the combined weather conditions will start to subside at night, when less rain and slower winds are forecast, the JMD said.

Daytime temperatures expected for today in Amman, the northern cities and the southern cities will hover around 10 degrees Celsius, dropping down to 5, 6 and 2 respectively at night. The weather will be warmer in the port city of Aqaba with highs reaching 21 degrees Celsius and lows standing at 13, the JMD explained.
