Four Texas cities evacuated after explosion in chemical plant

Authorities in Texas called for residents in four towns to evacuate their homes after a new explosion in a chemical plant, east of the state, has been burning for more than 12 hours.

Texas residents described the explosion of the plant “as a historic event that they have never seen before and it is devastating.”

Jefferson County officials issued a mandatory evacuation for residents within a 4-mile radius of the Texas Petroleum Chemical plant in Port Neches following a blast shredded a chemical distillation tower.
