Canadian universities urge students in Hong Kong to return home

shaheennews

– Canadian universities have urged their students on exchange programs in Hong Kong to return home, a result of the escalating violence on the college campuses in the city racked by increasingly violent protests.

Vice-provost of the University of British Columbia, Murali Chandrashekaran said in a statement that given the current situation in Hong Kong, the university had contacted all of its students there to discuss their options, adding “our recommendation to them is that they leave.”

The Globe and Mail newspaper reported on Monday that Canadian universities have encouraged their students to retune from Hong Kong after clashes at the Chinese University of Hong Kong were particularly intense and protesters threw more than 400 gasoline bombs against police.
