Energy and soft drinks banned from school cafeterias
shaheennews-
The Food Safety Standards for school cafeterias have been revised to exclude energy drinks and soft drinks from being sold at schools around the Kingdom, according to the Official Gazette, on November 4, 2018.
This ban also prohibits students from bringing these drinks with them to school.
Foods that are allowed to be sold at school cafeterias are preferably vitamin-rich and mineral-fortified foods which are free of artificial flavours and colouring; and include: flavoured or unflavoured long-life milk, yogurt, natural juices, freshly prepared sandwiches and pastries from licensed restaurants and according to conditions and health regulations, different kinds of biscuits, prepackaged cakes, natural potato and corn chips, prepackaged nuts and dates, fresh fruits and vegetables, and any other foodstuffs approved by the Minister of Health and published in the Official Gazette.
The Food and Safety standards also instruct workers in school cafeterias to submit a health certificate proving that they are free from contagious diseases, at the beginning of each semester.
