Germany allocates 462.12 million euros to support Jordan

The German government on Tuesday allocated 462.12 million euros in new aid, grants and soft loans to finance development projects in Jordan and support Syrian refugees.

A statement by the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation said that “the annual Jordanian-German government talks on development cooperation for the current year 2018, which took place in Berlin over two days led to signing a memorandum to allocate a total of 462.12 million euros in new aid, grants and technical assistance and soft loans to finance Development projects and grants to support Syrian refugees”.

Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Mary Kawar and State Secretary at the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, Martin Jaeger, signed the agreement in the presence of a number of Jordanian and German senior officials.

The new aid was distributed to € 291.8 million to fund vital sectors through grants, technical assistance and soft loans, of which € 164 million would be grants to support various sectors such as water and sanitation, the environment, solid waste management, education, vocational training and technical education, € 25.8 million in technical assistance, and €102 million in very concessional loans to support water, sanitation and to enhance energy efficiency in the water sector.

€73.32 million was allocated to support Syrian refugees and host communities through UN organizations and NGOs, and € 86 million as a soft loan to support the public budget and support economic reforms in Jordan.
