King, Queen meet Crown Prince of Sweden

His Majesty King Abdullah II and Queen Rania Al Abdullah received at Al Husseiniya Palace on Wednesday Sweden’s Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel.

During the meeting, which was attended by His Royal Highness Prince Ali bin Al Hussein, the two sides reviewed the “distinguished” relations between the two countries as His Majesty expressed Jordan’s keenness to improve cooperation with Sweden in various fields.

The talks touched on a number of regional issues and crises and efforts to reach political solutions to them, as His Majesty stressed the importance of the role of the European Union and Sweden in this regard.

The meeting also dealt with developments on peace process between Palestinians and Israelis, as the King stressed the need to reach a just and lasting peace based on the two-state solution, leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The discussions also tackled the financial challenges facing the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

His Majesty voiced appreciation for Sweden’s positions on pushing the peace process and providing support to UNRWA to enable it continue its education, health and relief services.

The large burdens shouldered by Jordan in hosting the Syrian refugees was also reviewed.

For her part, Princess Victoria praised Jordan’s attractive tourist and archeological sites as well as hospitality of the Jordanian people, affirming these features are “a great” opportunity to increase the number of tourists from Sweden to Jordan.

Advisor to His Majesty, Director of the King’s Office, the Swedish Ambassador to Jordan and the delegation accompanying Princess Victoria, attended the meeting.
