The Ministry of Water and Irrigation and an Australian government delegation held talks on enhancing cooperation in drought management within a program that includes a series of projects focusing on efficient water distribution and use, especially in the Jordan Valley region.

During the meeting chaired by the Minister of Water and Irrigation Raed Abu Al Saud and the Australian Ambassador to Jordan Miles Armitage, the ministry’s Secretary General, Ali Sobh, stressed the importance of continued coordination and cooperation between the Jordanian and Australian sides through the implementation of several important projects, especially as the Kingdom is a water-scarce country that needs new water resources to address the water deficit, praising the Australian government’s support for the water sector.

For his part, Armitage affirmed the continued support of the Australian government to Jordan and providing it with technical and scientific expertise to address water challenges.

The five-day talks, held with the participation of the ministry’s officials and a number of participants from the Australian side, will see discussion sessions on the studies and plans being prepared on the water sector in the Jordan Valley, aimed to provide farmers with sufficient water to irrigate their crops, and improve the region’s water situation.
