Inflation up by 4.6 percent in 9 months

Consumer Price Average (Inflation) rose by 4.6 percent in the first nine months of 2018 compared to the same period of 2017, according to a statement made by the Department of Statistics (DoS).

The main commodity groups, which contributed to this increase, were transport by 1.34 percentage points, cereals and its products by 0.99 percentage points, tobacco and cigarettes by 0.65 percentage points, rents 0.42 percentage points, and fuel and lighting by 0.39 percentage points.

According to the statement, the main commodity groups which witnessed a decrease in their prices were vegetables, dried and canned legumes by 0.19 percentage points, clothes by 0.05 percentage points, footwear by 0.01 percentage points, and spices, food enhancers and other foods by 0.01 percentage points.

The inflation of the Consumer Price index for September 2018 has reached 125.3 compared to 120.0 during the same month of 2017, recording an increase of 4.4 percent.

Groups contributing to the increase were transport by 1.30 percentage points, cereals and its products by 1.11 percentage points, tobacco and cigarettes by 0.60 percentage points, rents 00.4 percentage points, and fuel and lighting by 0.52 percentage points.

The commodity groups which witnessed a decrease in their prices were vegetables, dried and canned legumes by 0.16 percentage points, fruits and nuts by 0.11 percentage points, clothes 0.05 percentage points, and sugar and its products by 0.02 percentage points.
