Drugs seized, suspected dealers arrested in Aqaba
Shaheennews –
Anti-Narcotics Department (AND) personnel have arrested a number of suspected drug dealers as part of a crackdown on traffickers in the southern port city of Aqaba, according to a security source.
It said in a statement that acting on a tip-off, AND investigators were piecing together information that a vehicle with license plates of an Arab country had approached a border post between Jordan and Saudi Arabia, apparently trying to infiltrate the crossing point.
Security forces stopped the vehicle and a search of it yielded 15,000 Captagon pills- an amphetamine-based drug, which were stashed inside the car, the statement added.
Police also swooped on the house of one of the suspects, where they found 32,000 blocks of Cannabis, 2,000 Captagon pills and 1,200 of Xanax, an anti-anxiety drug.
All those arrested were being investigated, prior to referring them to the State Security Court’s prosecutor general.
