New gov’t decision exempts farmers from some taxes

In a step to support Jordanian farmers and the agricultural sector, the Prime Ministry announced on Monday that it will no longer be taxing farmers on profits made from selling agricultural products.

Profits made from selling poultry will no longer be taxed either, which were previously subjected to a 4% sales tax.

The 10% sales tax imposed on corn has now been reduced to 5%.

Local farmers will now only be taxed on their products when exporting them to the rest of the world.

The government is hoping that those new changes will help ease the challenges faced by farmers and others in the agricultural sector, which is why they’ve also reduced the prices of poultry, vegetables and fruits.
