General prosecution detains illegal immigration broker for 15 day, imposes travel ban on another

In what are now known as illegal immigration cases, the Irbid Public Prosecutor ordered the detention of a person for 15 days at the Correction and Rehabilitation Center on charges of human trafficking after he worked as a broker in facilitating people’s travel to foreign countries illegally and putting victims’ lives in danger.

In addition, the Public Prosecution decided to bar another employee of theirs who owned a tourist services office from leaving the country for a term of three months, with the possibility of an extension for a year, while the case under Article 15/A/3 of the Prevention of Human Trafficking Law.

The law views illegal immigration as a form of human trafficking, with two aggravating factors: first, it is a transnational crime, and second, there are multiple offenders and victims. Both of these factors carry a maximum 20-year prison sentence and a fine of JD20,000 dinars.
