Mezquite’s Heart

As part of the 12th UN Women Film Week under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Basma bint Talal, the film “Mezquite’s Heart” (2019), directed by Mexican filmmaker Ana Laura Calderón, was screened on Thursday at the Rainbow Theater in Amman.

The film portrays the story of Lucía, a Yoreme girl in Northern Mexico, who dreams of healing her father’s broken heart by playing the harp, which is traditionally played only by men in her community.

“Mezquite’s Heart” won Best International Feature Film in the Category “Children’s Film” at the International Film Festival for Chilren and Young Audience SCHLiNGEL, Best Film Award of The City of Malmö Children’s Film Award at the 2011 BUFF International Film Festival, and the Best Fiction Award at the 2020 BannabáFest – Panama International Human Rights Film Festival.
