Jordan and Mexico strengthen tourism cooperation

At the initiative of Turkish Airlines with the support and cooperation of the Mexican Embassy in Jordan, and with the aim to promote cooperation and tourism exchange between Jordan and Mexico, in collaboration and coordination with Jordan Tourism Board and the Ministry of Tourism in Mexico, and in the presence and support of the Jordanian Ambassador to Mexico, H.E. Mr. Adli Qasem Al-Khaledi, and the Mexican Ambassador to Jordan, H.E. Mr. Roberto Rodriguez Hernández, the Jordanian delegation concluded its visit to Mexico and returned home.
The Jordanian delegation was composed of the Director of Travel and Logistics at the Royal Hashemite Court, Mr. Raad Mirza; the Director of Communication and Public Relations at the Embassy of Mexico in Jordan; Dr. Samer Al-Azzeh, the representative of Jordan Tourism Board, Mr. Ahmad Nael Al-Majali; Director of Sales and Marketing of Turkish Airlines, Mr. Mohammad Bushnaq; General Manager of Sun Travel and Tourism, Mr. Belal Shkakhwa; General Manager of Bawadi Tours, Mr. Firas Abu Taa.
The delegation met with the Minister of Tourism in Mexico, Mr. Miguel Torruco Marqués, the Ambassador of Jordan in Mexico, H.E. Mr. Adli Al-Khaledi, and the Minister Plenipotentiary, H.E. Mr. Amjad Al -Mbideen, and they discussed ways of cooperating to increase the number of Mexican and Jordanian tourists, enhancing their access to Jordan and Mexico, throughout increasing air connectivity, facilitating travel procedures and alleviating challenges, among others.
During the meeting, the attendees highlighted the specific measures to promote the development of tourist products in the two countries, strengthen airports’ infrastructure, as well as the Travel Access Diversification Strategy, which represents a high level of expenditure. In 2022, Mexico was provided with 1354 tourists from Jordan by air, representing an increase of 1 .5% over what was recorded in 2019, the year before the coronavirus pandemic. According to statistics from Jordan Tourism Board, 16804 Mexican tourists have visited Jordan during 2023.
Through a fruitful dialogue, H.E. Al-Khaledi focused on the importance of the creation of bilateral agreements in tourism and aviation, as well as ways to improve bilateral best practices in terms of service to tourists. Mexico’s Minister of Tourism and ambassadors to the two countries and the sector’s entrepreneurs who participated in the meeting discussed the introductory visit to Mexico’s cities, current options regarding connectivity and the possibility of increasing it with the support of Turkish Airlines, among other companies.
It was also confirmed that next year’s meeting will be held with tour operators and important travel agents in the region, in Istanbul, Turkey, with the aim of showing Mexico’s wide tourism supply, products and new projects. Similarly, authorities and tour operators in Jordan were invited to attend the forty-eighth edition of the Tianguis Turístico México 2024, to be held at the port of Acapulco, Guerrero, from 8 to 12 April 2024, as part of actions to promote the recovery of this important tourist destination, along with projects implemented by the sector, in coordination with the Government and the private sector.
The meeting was also attended by the Director of International Media in the Ministry of Tourism in Mexico, Ernesto Velázquez Vázquez, Deputy Director of Connectivity of Ministry of Exterior, Yonadab Zacarías Sánchez; Director-General of Turkish Airlines in Mexico Ertan Alpay; Director of Sales at Turkish Airlines in Mexico, Musa Ozjan; Among other special guests.
During the official visit, the delegation visited three Mexican cities (Mexico City / Yucatán / Cancún), during which the most important areas and attractions were identified.
It was agreed that a Mexican delegation from the tourism sector would visit Jordan to learn about the most important tourist attractions in the Kingdom to promote tourism, especially religious, medical and recreational tourism.
