Jordan’s renewable energy sector flourishes with 29% surge in contribution

Jordan’s renewable energy sector continues to flourish, with renewable energy contribution witnessing a remarkable increase from 1% in 2013 to an impressive 29% in the present year, confirmed Rasmi Hamza, the CEO of the Jordan Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Fund (JREEEF).
During the Scientific Day for Green Energy, held on Tuesday in collaboration with the Jordanian Engineers Association, Hamza addressed attendees at the German Jordanian University, highlighting the Kingdom’s remarkable progress in adopting renewable energy, and emphasizing that this surge in renewable energy adoption paves the way for substantial advancements in promoting the use of clean and sustainable energy sources throughout the Kingdom.
Hamza revealed that the JREEEF recently completed a successful energy efficiency project in Petra, with a total cost of JD5 million. This initiative resulted in significant energy savings of 40-60% on the overall energy bill. Presently, a new project is underway in Aqaba, targeting 12 hotels to further enhance energy efficiency and conservation.
The CEO stressed the significance of the collective efforts towards energy transformation, and he proudly noted that there are currently 16 ongoing projects, with a combined cost of JD110 million, positively impacting over 1.5 million citizens across various sectors.
President of the Jordanian Engineers Association, Ahmad Zu’bi, commended the German-Jordanian University’s commitment to international agreements, fostering knowledge enrichment and cultural exchange.
Alaa Halhouli, President of the German-Jordanian University, expressed the university’s dedication to green energy and the green economy. He emphasized that green practices are integrated into daily routines, going beyond mere investments. Drawing from experiences in different countries, Halhouli highlighted the positive impact of green energy in reducing carbon emissions.
As Jordan charts a course toward sustainability, Halhouli emphasized the importance of equipping engineers with the necessary knowledge to lead green projects in the future. He also mentioned the university’s agreements with global companies, positioning itself as a leading advocate for the adoption of renewable energy and green practices in the region.
