Jordan continues to grapple with intense heatwave as hot, dry air mass persists

Jordan is set to endure scorching temperatures on Wednesday as it remains under the persistent influence of a hot and dry air mass situated over the Arabian Peninsula. The Jordan Meteorologist Department (JMD) reports that maximum temperatures are expected to soar significantly above the usual averages for this time of year, ranging approximately 4 to 5 degrees Celsius higher.
The prevailing weather conditions are anticipated to be intensely hot across most regions, with particularly searing temperatures predicted for the Badia, the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba areas.
The JMD emphasized the importance of avoiding direct exposure to the sun during peak hours, as well as warning against leaving children unattended inside closed vehicles. Additionally, it strongly advises against any activities that might ignite fires in forested or grassy regions, as the risk of wildfires is heightened during these conditions. Furthermore, it is essential to ensure that sanitizers, perfumes, and flammable materials are not left inside parked vehicles to mitigate potential hazards.
Looking ahead, meteorological projections indicate that the heatwave will persist through Thursday and Friday, with the weather remaining hot and dry across most parts of the kingdom. Extreme heat is also expected in the Badia, the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba, accompanied by moderate to occasionally active northwesterly winds.
On Saturday, the impact of the hot air mass is predicted to ease slightly, resulting in a minor decline in temperatures. Nonetheless, the weather is still expected to be relatively hot over mountainous areas and plains. Meanwhile, the Badia, the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba will continue to experience scorching temperatures.
Today’s peak temperatures will be between 37 and 35 degrees Celsius in Amman and various highlands throughout the Kingdom, with lows of 26 or even 24 degrees in the southern highlands at night. The Gulf city of Aqaba will have scorching weather, with highs of 45C and lows of 29C.
