The government will soon drop more Covid-19 restrictions in place since more than two years, State Minister for Media Affairs, Faisal Shboul, said on Monday.

In press remarks, Shboul, who is also the government spokesman, said distancing in places of worship will no longer be required but the use of masks in closed spaces will remain in place. According to the minister, the use of facial coverings in open places will no longer be required.

Under the amendments, which Shboul said were recommended by the national epidemiological committee, indoor and outdoor assemblies, including parties and dinning activities, are no longer required to abide by a preset attendance threshold.

For restaurants and cafes, the restrictions related to table seating capacity will also be canceled, the minister added. Shboul also revealed that Ramadan tents and mass iftars banquets will also be allowed.

The minister also announced a campaign will be launched and coordinated by a number of ministries to revive rituals and activities associated with the holy month after a two-year hiatus, including social, cultural and sporting activities.
