Magnitude 5.3 earthquake hits northwestern China

 A 5.3-magnitude earthquake early Sunday struck Mangya City in China’s northwestern province of Qinghai, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC).

The CENC said that the epicenter was monitored at 38.95 degrees north latitude and 92.73 degrees east longitude, adding that the earthquake struck at a depth of 10 km.

The director of the emergency management bureau in Mangya city reported that the quake was strongly felt by residents in Lenghu town in Mangya, which is 57 km away from the epicenter, noting that local authorities in the town are still verifying whether the quake had caused casualties or property damage.

“No casualties or property damage had been reported in downtown Mangya, about 180 km away from the epicenter,” the director further said.
