Labor Minister warns of hiring illegal foreign workers

Labor Minister Yousef al-Shamali on Sunday warned employers in various economic sectors of hiring illegal non-Jordanian workers in violation of the Labor Law.

In a statement, Al-Shamali said that the ministry will crack down on businesses employing foreign laborers without valid work permits and will take all the necessary decisions, including deportations, in coordination with other stakeholders.

The ministry’s inspection teams, he stressed, will fine non-abiding employers who employ foreign with no valid work permits or work in areas their permits do not allow for.

Al-Shamali also urged employers and non-Jordanian workers to avoid legal action and rectify their legal status as soon as possible before a September 2nd moratorium expires.
