India sees global record number of new COVID-19 cases

India on Monday recorded 352,991 new coronavirus infections, indicating the world’s highest daily tally of COVID-19 cases.

The number of deaths also jumped during the last 24 hours to reach 2,812, as the highest level ever recorded.

The Indian Ministry of Health said that the caseload in the country reached 17 million, while the total number of fatalities climbed to 195,123, according to the nation’s news agency.

Since last week, India has become the new epicenter of the virus in the world, as the country’s health care system has been strained.
