Acting-Director General of the Department of Antiquities, Ahmad Al Shami, and Georgian Ambassador to Amman, Zaza Kandelaki, on Sunday discussed the importance of cooperation between Jordan and Georgia in the conservation and restoration of archaeological sites.
Talks during the meeting also tackled activating the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in 2019 between the Department of Antiquities and the National Agency for Cultural Heritage Preservation of Georgia, a statement by the Department said on Monday.
Under the MoU, technical and scientific experiences in the field of archeology are exchanged between the two countries, and a joint project is implemented by a Jordanian-Georgian team through conducting surveys, excavations and documentations of monuments in the Georgian monastery, located in Shehan district in Karak governorate.
Al Shami expressed the Department’s willingness to develop joint work, while the Ambassador hailed the Department’s efforts in protecting and maintaining archaeological sites.
