FM, Erekat discuss developments on the Palestinian cause
Alshaheen News
During the consultative meeting, Safadi and Erekat said achieving a just, comprehensive and lasting peace is a “strategic” option through the two-state solution, which guarantees the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 lines with East Jerusalem as its capital, on the basis of international legitimacy decisions, the Arab Peace Initiative and the land-for-peace principle.
Israel should stop all its illegal measures, especially the annexation of lands and the construction and expansion of the settlement, which undermine the two-state solution and all chances of achieving a just peace, the two officials noted.
For his part, Erekat valued the Kingdom’s “firm” stances and its main role, led by His Majesty King Abdullah II, in supporting the Palestinian people and their legitimate rights, especially their freedom and establishment of an independent and sovereign state on their national soil.
Erekat stressed the importance of the Hashemite custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem to
protect the sanctuaries and preserving their Arab, Islamic and Christian identity and the existing historical and legal status.
Safadi and Erekat agreed to maintain continued consultations and coordination in the implementation of the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah II and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
