In Honor of Jordanian Music Icons: An Exceptional Show Narrates the Journey of Traditional Music at the Jerash Festival Opening Ceremony

The events of the 40th edition of the Jerash Festival for Culture and Arts kicked off on Wednesday evening. The opening ceremony, held at the North Theatre in the ancient city of Jerash, signaled the start of cultural and artistic activities celebrating the festival’s four-decade-long legacy.
The ceremony featured an exceptional artistic performance celebrating the journey of Jordanian song and music. It showcased its evolution through an artistic voyage that began with traditional and folklore heritage, transitioned through independent and alternative music, and culminated in contemporary works that have carried the Jordanian voice to Arab and global stages.
The show brought together an elite lineup of Jordanian music stars, including Omar Al-Abdallat, Hussein Al-Salman, Aziz Marqa, Nidaa Sharara, and Issam Alnajjar. It also featured tribute segments that revived the impact of Jordanian musical heritage icons—the esteemed artist Samira Tawfiq and the late artist Abdo Mousa—using artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. This gesture served as a profound appreciation for their artistic journeys and contributions.
The event included a live musical performance accompanied by an orchestra and choir, enhanced by visual projections and dynamic lighting techniques. Additionally, the Majdal Shams Dabke Troupe, led by Majdi Karkara, participated in an artistic tableau reflecting Jordan’s cultural and heritage identity, offering a visual and musical narrative of Jordanian creativity across the decades.
This opening ceremony paves the way for the launch of the festival’s full program, which encompasses dozens of musical evenings, as well as cultural, literary, and heritage events, featuring artists and creators from Jordan alongside various Arab and international countries.
