تُستخدم ألوف الأطنان من روث الإبل كوقود في إنتاج الإسمنت بشمال دولة الإمارات، ضمن مشروع بيئي لخفض الانبعاثات وإبعاد الروث عن مكبات النفايات.
ويتخلص مربو الإبل من روثها في محطات تجميع ليجري نقله بشاحنات إلى مصنع ضخم للإسمنت حيث يخلط مع الفحم لتوفير الطاقة المطلوبة لتشغيل غلاية المصنع، علما بأن هذا المشروع تديره حكومة إمارة رأس الخيمة.
وقال محمد أحمد علي إبراهيم، المدير العام لشركة إسمنت الخليج، إن الناس “بدأوا يضحكون، صدقوني” عندما وصفت وكالة إدارة النفايات الفكرة لهم.

ويعد الهدف الرئيسي للمشروع منع إلقاء روث الإبل في مكبات النفايات، حيث تسعى الحكومة لإبعاد 75 في المئة من كل النفايات عن المكبات بحلول 2021.
