Ahead of a major clash against reigning champions Australia, Jordan’s national football team stepped up its preparations for the game despite losing the services of midfielder Yazan Thalji for injury.

The team had a training session on Friday in the oasis city of Al Ain in Abu Dhabi. The Nashama [the nickname given to the national team], led by Belgian coach Vital Borkelmans, have high hopes of going far in the tournament which kicks off Saturday at the Zayed Sports City Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

Borkelmans decided to go with Ehssan Haddad, giving Jordan a supplementary midfield presence after Thalji’s participation was ruled out.

Jordan’s group B include Australia, Syria and Palestine.

A sports’ media delegation arrived today in Abu Dhabi and met with fans who expressed enthusiasm to come to Al Ain stadium to cheer for 90 straight minutes in support of the Nashama.
